HeartBreak

You spin on your heel,
You walk away,
How can you pretend
that it’s ok?

I watch him from across the room, discreet and shy. He knows I am watching him, yet he avoids my eyes, my every glance. Slowly, he shakes his head, a silent rejection.

My heart shatters into millions of pieces, filled with anguish from his denial. A thought flows smoothly into my head, wiping everything else away, numbing the pain of his treachery.

He is running away from himself….

In despair, I let my head fall to my desk with a soft, empty thump. Tears pour in silent streams down my face. All around me, teens chatter on, unaware of the sadness that floods me. They have never been hurt in this way.

But one other person knows too. Up snaps my friend’s head, rage smoldering in her eyes. She too knows his secret betrayal, what he denied.
